SSN – WDMH is changing vistors hours to make it easier for patient’s friends and family to see them. Studies have shown that it helps in patient recovery.

An Open Door Approach at WDMH

Families want to be involved in the care of their loved ones, and a new visiting policy at Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) is making that a little easier. WDMH’s new visiting hours are flexible, with no prescribed or restricted hours.

“Studies show that an open door approach to visiting is better for patients. We know that family members play an important role in the healing process and having them around can lower a patient’s anxiety levels and support their care ,” says Lynn Hall, Senior Vice President, Clinical Services and Chief Nursing Executive.

Visiting hours are based on the expressed wishes of the patient, unique infection control restrictions or safety issues. The condition and care needs of all patients must be considered at all times, and visiting could be interrupted or adjusted to protect privacy or for safety or security reasons. As always, visitors should not visit if they are feeling unwell or have an infection.

“We all want to do what is best for a loved one,” adds Lynn Hall. “With the consent of our patients, we want families to be involved in all aspects of their care.”
