Food for Fines at SD&G County Library

FoodForFines_2014 edited

SSN – The SD&G County Library is once again starting their Christmas Food Drive.

The annual Food for Fines campaign at SD&G County Library is back this November.  Once again, Library patrons are invited to pay off overdue fines by donating non-perishable food items from November 16 until the 30th.  For each item donated, one dollar of fines will be forgiven.  The campaign is a win-win for patrons, as they have the opportunity to give back to their communities while also clearing up outstanding library fines.

The campaign is also a benefit for the SDG community.  Branches will work with local food banks to ensure donated items reach the communities they serve.  In some cases, local food banks have also provided branches lists of items that are in high demand in their communities.

“Food for Fines is a great way for both the Library, and the residents to get involved in the community” says Karen Franklin, Director of Library Services.  “Fines can happen to anyone when you forget to renew an item, and this program allows patrons to erase those fines while helping out their community”.

More than $900 in fines were forgiven last year, which means and over 900 food items were donated through the 2014 Food for Fines campaign.  Residents without library fines are also welcome to make food donations at their library branch.  “Contributing to local food banks is important to our communities, and this is one way that the Library can support the help food banks provide”, states Ms. Franklin.  “We appreciate everyone’s generosity in this annual campaign”.

If you have outstanding fines on your Library account or wish to donate non-perishable food items for the Food for Fines campaign, visit your local SD&G County Library branch.  Questions about the program can be directed to Susan Wallwork, Communications & Marketing Librarian, by phone at (613) 936 -8777 ext. 226, or by email at swallwork@sdglibrary.ca.
