Long Sault – Last night at the regularly scheduled Town Council meeting in South Stormont, Share-A-Watt Community Power Services Inc presented a plan to develop a new solar power project in the township, The Esdale Project.

Sherra Zulerons, Chief Executive Officer, and John Barros, Chief Development Officer, presented a plan to turn an unused barren piece of land on Cornwall Centre Road, west of Power Damn Drive and across from the Cornwall land fill site, into a solar farm producing 10 MW of power.  The Community Liaison for the project, former South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis, also spoke passionately about the benefits of building the solar farm to the Township. Not only will it create hundreds of local jobs during the construction but there will be many permanent jobs for the expected 22 years life span of the site.

The purpose of the presentation was to obtain a support resolution from the township. It is only one step in the approval process but an important hurdle to overcome. After the council questioned the well prepared presentation, they passed the resolution in a count of 4 to 1 with Deputy Mayor Hart being the only negative vote. She stated that she could not vote for the project because she does not believe in renewable energy.

If all things fall into place the project could be started in 2 to 3 years. The complete presentation can be viewed on the South Stormont Township web site:

Share-A Watt will be back at council to present a plan for micro-fitting solar panels on private property at the request of the property owners.
