A Week of Celebrations: Canada Day and Fun Fest by Reg Coffey

Politicians Singing on Canada Day

MPP Jim McDonell, former MPP Jim Brownell, MP Guy Lauzon and South Stormont Mayor Jim Bancroft

SSN – This has been quite a week of celebrations. First we had Fun Fest on Saturday in Long Sault and then Canada Day brought an abundance of party’s right across Canada. The Lost Villages carried on with their plans even through torrential downpours and everyone there showed true Canadian character by not letting the rain dampen their spirits or Canadian pride.

We had all the local politicians at Lost Villages to sing our national anthem during a break in the rain. You can see MPP Jim McDonell, former MPP Jim Brownell, MP Guy Lauzon and South Stormont Mayor Jim Bancroft all belting out our National Anthem during a brief sunny period at noon. Unfortunately the weather was not always as cooperative during the event.

And The Rain Came Down On Canada Day

However as good Canadians we never let a little weather get in the way of a good party.

Fun Fest

In contrast, Fun Fest had much better weather for all of the planned events. The car and motorcycle show had full sunshine to show off all of the mechanized pieces of art.

There was 3 pitch base ball, volley ball, raffles and plenty of food for all during the day and a beer tent with live music after 6 PM.

Lions Club Helping Out

The newly formed Ingleside and Long Sault Lost Villages Lions club was there to help out as well as the SD&G Cornwall Shrine Club.

Dave Smith and his wife Debbie organized the event for the second year but are handing over the reins to the new Lion’s Club for the future.

Next year’s Fun Fest should be even bigger and better, building on the great work that Dave and Debbie have put into this event.
