End of an Era – Councilor Barry Brownlee of South Stormont Retires After Six Decades In Politics

barry brownlee 2SSN – The end of a legacy is happening this term in South Stormont.  Barry Brownlee is retiring from a life time of public service that started in 1967!

Being a councilor is not an easy job.

He spoke about the new municipal offices and new medical centre.

I’m not going to sit down.

While he’s retiring from politics he still works with his funeral home.

Mr. Brownlee is currently a Councillor in the Township of South Stormont and has been since 2000.

He has been a member of various Township related Committees, including Parks and Recreation Advisory and Raisin Region Conservation Authority, and continues to support the community.

He also served as Councillor for the Village of Finch for 26 years, 1967-1993, and served as a member of various Committees during his years on Village of Finch Council.

Barry and his wife Heather live in Ingleside and have two married sons, Chad and Todd and four grandchildren. He owned Brownlee Funeral Home from 1970 to 2000, co-owned for a period of time and continues to be a familiar face as patrons visit the funeral home. He is proud to share that he was born and raised in the village of Finch and has been a Lion’s Club member for more than 40 years.

He served on the Upper Canada District School Board for three years from 1994-1997 and served on the Foundation Committee of the Winchester & District Hospital from 1998-2000. Barry also sits on the Board of Carefor Health & Community Services Eastern Counties Branch (formerly VON).
